In 2001, when a group of people were let go from Hewlett-Packard in Rancho Bernardo, they started having networking meetings. Before long, non-HP people were also encouraged to attend, as the group increased its effectiveness as its membership grew.

The Poway-HP Networking Group continues to meet on alternate Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m.. There is no charge to attend. Once in a while the meeting time can be changed slightly, for example if there is a conflicting job fair at the same time. You can check with one of the group's organizers, Steve Worth, before you go.

The meeting consists of each person introducing themselves then taking a few minutes to share any leads/ideas/info they have with the group as well as requesting information from the group. The attendance usually varies between 5 and 20 people. (recently the attendance was 14.)

Once a person has attended the meeting they can be added to the email distribution list for updates. Anyone is welcome so feel free to forward the meeting information to others.

The person who volunteers the space in the church worked at HP for something like 20 yrs until he was laid off. He is happy to answer questions about what goes on at HP and provide contact information if there is a job opening that matches your skills. Another benefit of this meeting is that once you attend you can (if you wish) get on the group's email list and from time to time members send out useful announcements or you can send out requests such as "does anyone have a friend working at XYZ corp?".

Directions: from I-15, go east on either Camino Del Norte or Poway Rd. Midland is a street after Community. Meet in the conference room. If the person in the group who lets us use his church finds a job then this location will change, so you should check back with Steve Worth to confirm that future meetings are still being held there.
